Great little gadget
I've had mine for 3 days now, and it's been really hard to put down and walk away from. Obviously the poratability of it is a big reason, but also because the 6 cell battery lasts so long that I feel like I can just leave it on for a while without feeling the need to keep powering it down or charging it all the time. Also, boot up and shutdown times are a lot faster than my regular laptop.

The build is very solid. There is no flex in the screen or keyboard. I'm not sure how it would hold up if dropped on a hard surface, though. I hope I never have to find out. Keyboard response is nice. The keys don't feel cheap or like they would snap off if more than a little pressure is placed on them. Keys are close to regular size so typing on it doesn't take much getting used to, if at all. The screen is highly reflective and the outer coating has a glossy finish, which I don't prefer because it leaves fingerprints too easily and makes it difficult to see the screen in the daylight. But I'm willing to live with this simply because the computer has so much else going for it. (Click to see more…)

This laptop is a fantastic value for anyone who needs performance and does not mind a compromise in build quality and looks. I've been using this laptop for about a month now with no issues. The i7 power, huge amount of RAM, and a fast HDD are astonishing. I am doing image and video processing on it and everything just flies. No issues whatsoever. The 1080p screen is something out of this world too.

I have never had anything like this before and that is why you can see that my review is a little elevated. Please understand that everything is relative. So is my experience using this laptop; it's a day and night comparing to what I had before. Emotions and novelty aside, all in all I consider this to be a great deal and I definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who wants performance on a budget. The R705 is unique in packing a full-performance CPU, DVD writer, and a 13" screen while weighing the same as a 10-inch netbook.

You will appreciate the lightness, but may have to get used to the thin and hollow feel of panels and casings. The internal structure should prove reliable, though. Rather than the MacBook's all-round sturdy feel, this machine is engineered to be solid where it counts. It weighs 30% less than the 13-inch unibody Macbook Pro: 3.2 lbs vs 4.5

The only catch is that full performance means "integrated graphics", if you can live with that. I develop websites and run virtual machines, so it's not that big a difference with enough RAM and reliable drivers.

Toshiba designed this model to be a "business-class" machine, with a 3 year warranty and life-cycle. So I wouldn't worry about the 1 year warranty, if that means business quality at consumer prices. (Click to see more…)

Great desktop replacement
My desktop fried after 4 years, and decided to look into this 17" HP laptop.It's been 2 months since purchase and each time I log in, I pat myself on the back for making such a good choice.Great screen size,not too heavy,and powerful enough unless your head over heels into gaming. Pretty Good and worth buying
I liked this model a lot. It has modest RAM for a laptops of its age and is very durable. Well mine is anyways, it survived a yard fall with no damage. sure the keys start popping off once in a while, but it's simple to plug them back in. I'd recomend this one for people who are resonpsible, like vista, and are ok with 2 GB ram max. It can run most things well, but for more things that require high processig power and graphics, I'd say go get a newer laptop.

Great computer for grad school
I purchased this laptop, and I love it! I previously owned a Dell Latitude D620, and I wanted something similar but more practical and affordable for grad school. This computer looks nice, runs great, and I am really loving the Windows 7. The only negative is that the laptop shows your fingerprints really easily, so you have to wipe the laptop down if you don't want to stare at fingerprints.
